Beihai Yueda FRP Products Co., Ltd. has learned that fiberglass products are now widely used in urban water treatment, low-carbon weight reduction for ships, smart grid power equipment, marine tourism for boats, marine corrosion prevention and seawater desalination, metallurgical steel power desulfurization, corrosion prevention and safety in coal and stone mining, wind power, low-carbon vehicles, energy-saving construction, and decoration. At the same time, fiberglass products are increasingly applied in new technologies for making weapons, aerospace equipment, and more. It is not an exaggeration to say that the new fiberglass materials of the future will be another milestone in human development. The demand for fiberglass is expected to grow.
Beihai Yueda Fiberglass Products Co., Ltd. learned that fiberglass products are now widely used in urban water treatment, low-carbon weight reduction for ships, smart grid power equipment, marine tourism, marine corrosion prevention and seawater desalination, metallurgy, steel power desulfurization, coal mining corrosion prevention and safety, wind power, low-carbon vehicles, building energy conservation, and decoration. Fiberglass composite materials are increasingly being applied in these fields. At the same time, fiberglass products are also being used in new technologies for making weapons, aerospace equipment, etc. It is not an exaggeration to say that the new fiberglass materials of the future will be another milestone in human development. The demand for fiberglass is expected to soon exceed that of the United States and is becoming the largest market for fiberglass demand and application globally. This is also the main reason why high-end fiberglass companies worldwide are increasingly focusing on the Asian market. The aviation sector is the main application area for fiberglass. According to experts, the primary application area is the aviation sector, where the global aviation industry consumed 210,000 tons of composite materials in 2008.
In 2009, a research report on the global polymer-based composite materials industry in aviation was published, which stated that with the development of the global aviation industry, the polymer-based composite materials market is expected to maintain double-digit growth until 2014. It is predicted that from 2008 to 2014, the usage of composite materials in the global aviation sector will grow by 11% annually. Energy and electricity are both traditional and emerging application fields. Firstly, wind energy: in 2009, global wind power capacity reached 159,213 MW, with an addition of 38,312 MW that year, resulting in the highest annual growth rate of 31.7% since 2001. By the end of 2009, global wind power generation was 3.4 trillion watt-hours/year, equivalent to the total electricity demand of Italy, the seventh-largest economy in the world, and also equivalent to 2% of global electricity consumption. Flue gas desulfurization accounts for more than half of global power generation, so coal will remain the primary fuel for at least the next few decades. All thermal power plants will eventually need to install scrubbers and desulfurization systems, and fiberglass is a highly cost-effective material in this application area.
Future investments in FGD (flue gas desulfurization) will mainly be in Asia, rather than in the United States and Europe. China will become the largest market for FGD systems, accounting for more than 40% of the global total. In China, the application of fiberglass in desulfurization systems is still in the rising stage, with only a few fiberglass companies able to provide fiberglass products that meet the requirements for desulfurization systems. Moreover, fiberglass products are currently limited to spray pipes and a very small number of flue gas and slurry pipelines in integrated desulfurization facilities. In the next 20 years, the desulfurization capacity of coal-fired power plants in China will more than double. If the fiberglass industry takes appropriate measures to strengthen product development, equipment manufacturing, and technological updates, as well as enhance market promotion and expansion, it will undoubtedly open up a broad market for fiberglass products in the FGD market. In power transmission and transformation facilities, fiberglass is widely used due to its lightweight, high strength, good insulation, fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, ease of processing and forming, and easy maintenance. The application of fiberglass composite materials in the power industry, in addition to traditional transmission and transformation equipment and facilities, has made fiberglass poles and composite cable cores one of the industry's focal points. In recent years, as land for transmission corridors has become increasingly tight, the advantages of composite materials for transmission poles have become more prominent.
