Guidelines for Maintenance and Repair of FRP Tanks

We all know that fiberglass tanks need maintenance and repair after long-term use. So, what aspects should we pay attention to during the maintenance and repair process?

1. Before inspecting and repairing the storage tank, the power supply to the electrical equipment related to the tank must be turned off. Tanks used for storing flammable gases and liquids should be equipped with necessary fire-fighting equipment.

2. Tanks used for holding flammable, corrosive, toxic, or asphyxiating media must undergo replacement, neutralization, disinfection, cleaning, and other treatments. After treatment, an analysis inspection should be conducted, and the analysis results should meet relevant standards and specifications. It is important to note that when the tank contains flammable media, air replacement is prohibited.

3. After draining the internal media of the tank, the inlet and outlet valves should be closed, or blind plates should be added to isolate the connected pipelines and equipment, with prominent isolation signs.

4. For tanks storing flammable, explosive, toxic, corrosive, and other media, relevant regulations for hazardous materials handling must be strictly followed.

5. Work inside the tank must be accompanied by a work permit. If the work is interrupted for a long time, a new work permit must be obtained.

6. A sample analysis must be taken thirty minutes before entering the tank, ensuring that the oxygen content is between 18-23% (by volume).

7. Smoking, open flames, heating, and bringing ignition sources into the tank area are prohibited.

8. When entering the tank to clean toxic or corrosive residues, personal protective equipment must be worn.

9. Any scaffolding and lifting devices that need to be set up must be secure and reliable. During work, throwing materials or tools into the tank is prohibited to ensure safe operations.

10. Lighting inside the tank should use explosion-proof lamps with a voltage not exceeding 24 volts.

11. If hot work is required inside the tank, a hot work permit must be obtained.

12. A supervisor must be designated for work inside the tank, and reliable communication measures should be in place.

13. Upon completion, the maintenance personnel and the supervisor must jointly inspect the inside and outside of the tank. After confirming that everything is correct, the supervisor can sign the work permit before closing all manholes.

14. When draining water after pressure testing, it must be vented to the atmosphere to prevent vacuum formation.

The above are the precautions for the maintenance and repair of fiberglass tanks. I hope this can be helpful to everyone. Guangxi Fiberglass Products Co., Ltd. is a professional manufacturer of fiberglass products, and our products are well received by users. Feel free to call for consultation.
