Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) pipes are a type of lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant non-metallic pipe. They are made by winding layers of fiberglass with a resin matrix around a rotating core mold according to process requirements, and evenly laying quartz sand as a sandwiched layer between the fibers at a long distance. The wall structure of the pipe is rational and advanced, fully utilizing the material's properties, enhancing rigidity while ensuring the product's stability and reliability under the premise of meeting usage strength. The fiberglass sewage pipes use highly corrosion-resistant resins, possessing excellent mechanical properties and processing characteristics, making them suitable for most untreated sewage containing acids, alkalis, salts, seawater, corrosive soils, groundwater, and numerous chemical substances.

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Pipes - A Wise Choice for Sewage Engineering

Fiberglass pipes are a type of lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant non-metallic pipes. They are made by winding fiberglass with a resin matrix layer by layer around a rotating core mold, and evenly laying quartz sand as a sandwiched layer between the fibers. The wall structure of the pipe is reasonable and advanced, fully utilizing the material's properties, improving rigidity while meeting the required strength, and ensuring the stability and reliability of the product. The fiberglass sewage pipes use highly corrosion-resistant resin, possessing excellent mechanical properties and processing characteristics, and can withstand most untreated sewage, corrosive soil or groundwater, and many chemical substances. Even at -30°C, they still have good toughness and high strength, can be used long-term in the range of -50°C to 80°C, and can also be used at 110°C with specially formulated resin.

Advantages of fiberglass sewage pipes:

1. After curing, they are resistant to fouling, do not scale, rust, or get contaminated by marine or sewage microorganisms such as shellfish and bacteria.

2. Long service life and safety reliability. The design safety factor of fiberglass sewage pipes is high. Laboratory simulation tests show that the lifespan of general water supply and drainage sandwiched fiberglass pipes can reach over 50 years, which is twice that of steel and concrete pipes. For highly corrosive media, their service life is much longer than that of steel pipes.

3. The wear resistance of fiberglass pipes is very good. Tests have shown that when water containing a large amount of mud and sand is rotated in the pipe for wear comparison tests, after 300,000 rotations, the wear depth of the inner wall of the pipes is as follows: steel pipes with tar and porcelain oil coating are 0.53mm; surface-hardened steel pipes are 0.48mm; fiberglass pipes are 0.21mm, indicating that fiberglass pipes have strong wear resistance.

4. Low specific gravity and lightweight.

The specific gravity of sandwiched fiberglass pipes produced by fiber winding is between 1.65 and 2.0, only 1/4 of that of steel, but the circumferential tensile strength of fiberglass pipes is 180-300MPa, and the axial tensile strength is 60-150MPa, similar to alloy steel. Therefore, their specific strength (strength/specific gravity) is 2-3 times that of alloy steel, allowing them to be designed to meet various internal and external pressure requirements according to user needs. For the same pipe diameter, the weight of FRPM pipes is only 1/2.5 that of carbon steel pipes (steel plate rolled pipes), 1/3.5 that of cast iron pipes, and about 1/8 that of prestressed reinforced concrete pipes, making transportation and installation very convenient.

1. Low operating and maintenance costs, easy to construct. Due to the excellent corrosion resistance of fiberglass products, there is no need for rust prevention, fouling prevention, insulation, or maintenance measures, and buried pipes do not require cathodic protection, saving a lot of maintenance costs. They have strong external load capacity, and fiberglass sandwiched pipes can be directly buried under traffic lanes without the need for a concrete protective layer.

6. Excellent insulation performance, easy to install.

Due to the low thermal conductivity of fiberglass products, their insulation performance is particularly good.

The length of the pipes is generally: 6-12m per piece (special lengths can also be produced according to customer requirements). The long length of a single pipe and fewer joints speed up the installation process, reduce the probability of failure, and improve the overall installation quality of the pipeline.
