The fiberglass water tank has advantages such as no leakage, no deformation, no pollution, and a long service life. It is also easy to assemble and aesthetically pleasing, and can be assembled into water tanks of different capacities according to user needs. Therefore, fiberglass water tanks are widely used in industrial and mining enterprises, institutions, residential buildings, hotels, restaurants, and other constructions, serving as facilities for storing drinking water, reclaimed water treatment, fire-fighting water, and other water needs. The three main factors affecting the quality of fiberglass water tanks are fiberglass, resin, and the interface. These three elements are indispensable and are closely related to each other, making them inseparable. Three main factors determine the quality of fiberglass water tanks.

Fiberglass water tanks have advantages such as no leakage, no deformation, no pollution, and a long service life. They are also easy to assemble and aesthetically pleasing, and can be assembled into water tanks of different tonnages according to user needs. Therefore, fiberglass water tanks are widely used in construction sites, enterprises, residential areas, hotels, restaurants, etc., as facilities for storing drinking water, treated water, fire-fighting water, and other water.

Factors affecting the quality of fiberglass water tanksThree majorfactorsareglass fiber, resinandinterface. These three elements are indispensable, closely related, and inseparable.

1.Glass fiber is the main load-bearing part that determines the quality of fiberglass water tanks. It not only improves the strength and elastic modulus of fiberglass but also reduces shrinkage deformation and increases heat distortion temperature and low-temperature impact strength.

2.Resin is the matrix material that determines the quality of fiberglass water tanks. It is responsible for bonding the loose glass fibers into a whole and mainly plays a role in stress transfer. It affects the elastic modulus, heat resistance, electrical insulation, electromagnetic wave permeability, chemical corrosion resistance, weather resistance, and aging resistance of fiberglass. For example, the chemical liquid erosion resistance and water resistance of fiberglass mainly depend on the performance of the resin matrix. Different types and grades of resin have different properties. In addition, the resin content also affects the performance of fiberglass water tanks. Typically, the resin content is 20%-35%, which is related to the molding method and the type of reinforcement material. For example, in winding and molding processes, the resin content is relatively low, while in hand lay-up processes, the resin content is slightly higher. The resin content in the strength layer is usually between 25%-40%; the resin content in the corrosion-resistant and impermeable layers is higher, generally exceeding 50% when using glass cloth as reinforcement material, while the resin content is lower when using glass mat. When using glass fiber surface mat as reinforcement material, the resin content can reach over 85%.3.

During the drawing and weaving process of glass fiber, a layer of wetting agent is often applied to achieve bundling, lubrication, and static elimination. Most of these wetting agents are paraffin-based substances, which remain on the surface of the glass fiber and act as a barrier between the synthetic resin and the glass fiber, hindering their bonding. It is evident that the interface has a significant impact on the performance of fiberglass. Glass fiber is a cylindrical glass, and its surface is smooth like glass, often firmly adsorbing a thin layer of water film, which certainly affects the bonding performance between glass fiber and resin. In addition, there are also interface issues when bonding fiberglass with other materials or when layering fiberglass itself multiple times. For example, when applying fiberglass anti-corrosion lining to a metal tank, it is necessary to clean the inner surface of the metal tank, removing dirt, oil, moisture, and rust layers, often using sandblasting or acid washing methods. If the metal surface is not well treated, the fiberglass lining will fail. Sometimes, there are also interface issues when re-bonding fiberglass to a cured fiberglass layer. For layered curing processes or fiberglass repair, the surface of the fiberglass layer needs to be treated, removing dirt, oil, and water, and the surface should be sanded to increase the bonding area; otherwise, delamination defects may occur. Practice has shown that glass fiber and its fabrics, after being treated with surface treatment agents, not only improve the wear resistance, water resistance, and electrical insulation of glass fiber but also significantly enhance the strength of fiberglass water tanks, especially under humid conditions.Guangxi Fiberglass Products Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer specializing in the production of fiberglass
