Glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) grating, also known as FRP grating, is a plate-like material made from glass fiber as the reinforcing material and unsaturated polyester resin as the matrix, processed through special composite techniques to create a structure with many voids. It can be widely used in various industries such as petroleum, chemical electronics, power generation, paper manufacturing, dyeing, electroplating, marine exploration, and wastewater treatment for applications like working platforms, equipment platforms, drilling platforms, and walkways. It is an ideal product for corrosive environments and is also suitable for civil construction facilities. So how can we determine the quality of FRP grating? Let's analyze the following: A. Selection of raw materials. The raw materials used in FRP grating are essential.
Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic(abbreviated as FRP) Grating, also known as fiberglass grating, is a plate-like material made of fiberglass as the reinforcing material and unsaturated polyester resin as the matrix, processed through special composite techniques to create a board with many voids. It can be widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemical electronics, electric power, paper, dyeing, electroplating, marine exploration, and sewage treatment for working platforms, equipment platforms, drilling platforms, walkways, etc. It is an ideal product in corrosive environments and is also suitable for civil construction facilities.
So how do we determine the quality of fiberglass grating? Let's analyze it below:
A. Selection of raw materials. The raw materials used for fiberglass grating are resin, fiberglass strands, and filler calcium powder, configured in a ratio of 1:1:1. High-quality fiberglass grating uses high-quality resin: unsaturated ortho resin 196, which is colorless and transparent. It has low viscosity, low exotherm, low shrinkage, fast curing, high compatibility, and good gloss. The produced fiberglass grating is flat and smooth, has good gloss, high strength, and certain toughness. If low-quality resin is used, the opposite will occur: low-quality resin is murky, has high viscosity, high exotherm, high shrinkage, relatively slow curing, and poor compatibility, resulting in grating with many pores, easy to break, low strength, and poor toughness.
The fiberglass strands enhance the toughness of the grating. High-quality fiberglass strands, such as alkali-free fiberglass strands, have a strength higher than that of steel wire, possess certain toughness, are chemically stable, have good weather resistance, and almost do not absorb water or burn when exposed to fire. Their high strength allows them to be used as tire cord. The fiberglass strands from Sihua Company in Huai County are laid in 8-9 layers, ensuring product strength. However, some manufacturers use high-alkali strands as substitutes for alkali-free strands. High-alkali strands have lower strength and poorer water and alkali resistance.
The filler for fiberglass grating is calcium powder or aluminum powder. High-quality fillers are finely powdered and pure white, have flame retardant properties, and fully integrate with the resin, resulting in boards with bright colors, good transparency, and high toughness. In contrast, low-quality fillers are coarse and dull, not flame retardant, and produce boards that lack gloss and are brittle.
B. Comparison of finished products. High-quality fiberglass grating products have no obvious cracks, fewer pores, bright and pure colors, good transparency, certain toughness, high strength, good surface smoothness, and long service life; while low-quality fiberglass grating products have visible cracks, many pores, impure colors, and insufficient gloss. Their service life is also shorter.
C. The true strength of fiberglass grating will also be revealed during actual use. High-quality fiberglass grating may slightly darken in color after a few years, but the entire board remains intact with no obvious damage. In contrast, low-quality fiberglass grating cannot withstand practical testing; after a few years, it will show obvious damage such as corrosion, breakage, and pores, and the board will not be as flat, with severe color degradation and overall aging. Generally, fiberglass grating is expected to last twenty years, but low-quality fiberglass grating may show signs of overall aging after just two years, leading to significant losses.
