Factors Influencing the Development of the Fiberglass Products Industry
1. Unfavorable factors affecting the development of the fiberglass products industry
(1) Lack of talent Due to the fact that the fiberglass filter paper and vacuum insulation board core material sub-sectors in China are in the development and startup phases respectively, the industry lacks comprehensive technical talents that integrate industrial technologies such as inorganic non-metallic nanomaterials, non-woven forming, automatic control, as well as fluid mechanics, surface science, and crystallization theory, along with skilled technical workers.
(2) Product quality is uneven, lacking unified quality standards.
Currently, the domestic fiberglass pipe market is chaotic, and it is difficult to guarantee the quality of pipes solely based on industry standards. Due to the lack of unified design standards for fiberglass products, the disorderly competition in the market has resulted in significant differences in product quality. At present, the design and selection of fiberglass pipelines in China mainly rely on the relevant information provided by manufacturers, lacking authoritative standards. Due to the uneven production equipment, technical level, and personnel quality among manufacturers, there are significant differences in product quality, making it difficult to achieve the survival of the fittest and fair competition in fiberglass pipe products.
(3)Low industrial level
Currently, fiberglass product companies are still in a self-accumulation, high energy consumption, and low efficiency development stage. In terms of product application areas, China's fiberglass products industry is still at a low level of industrial agglomeration, mainly concentrated in ordinary fields such as construction, petroleum, and municipal engineering, with little involvement in high-tech fields such as aerospace, environmental engineering, rail transit, and new energy. This low-level industrial development model has increasingly faced fierce price competition from domestic and foreign peers, which is not conducive to the innovation and upgrading of the fiberglass products industry.
(4) Difficulties in industrial financing
Financing difficulties remain a major obstacle to the development of the fiberglass products industry. Due to insufficient funds, most fiberglass companies lack research and development funding, making it impossible to effectively carry out technological research and development, resulting in the inability to develop new products and implement new projects. The capitalization level of fiberglass product companies in China is relatively low, with issues such as poor capital turnover and severe lack of development funds becoming increasingly prominent, restricting fiberglass companies from growing stronger.
2.Favorable factors affecting the development of the fiberglass products industry
(1) Industrial structure upgrading is the direction of China's future economic development In terms of industrial structure upgrading, after the outbreak of the global financial crisis in 2008, the comparative advantage of China's traditional industries has significantly weakened, and the pressure for industrial development has further increased. Since 2010, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council have successively issued the "Suggestions on Formulating the Twelfth Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development" and the "Decision on Accelerating the Cultivation and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries," encouraging and supporting the development of strategic emerging industries, focusing on the development of seven major industries: energy conservation and environmental protection, new generation information technology, biotechnology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, new materials, and new energy vehicles. As a foundational industry of strategic emerging industries, the fiberglass products industry will face strategic development opportunities and has broad development prospects.
(2) National policy drive
In 2011, five ministries (commissions) including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce, and Intellectual Property Office issued the "Guidelines for Key Areas of High-Tech Industrialization Prioritized for Development (2011)," identifying low-cost, high-performance, and special-purpose fiberglass and its products as key areas for high-tech industrialization; the "Guidance Catalog for Industrial Structure Adjustment (2011)" included the technology development and production of high-performance fiberglass and products in the encouraged category; the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan for New Materials Industry" listed new inorganic non-metallic materials as a key area for support.
Additionally, on November 3, 2015, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Suggestions on Formulating the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development," which clearly stated: "By 2020, the urbanization rate of the registered population will accelerate." With the continuous acceleration of the urbanization process, governments at all levels are increasingly focusing on the construction of urban underground pipeline facilities, issuing various construction plans and corresponding support policies. On June 14, 2014, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Construction and Management of Urban Underground Pipelines," proposing construction goals in response to multiple issues in urban underground pipeline construction management: "Plan to complete the renovation of old urban underground pipelines within 5 years; within about 10 years, establish a relatively complete urban underground pipeline system." On August 10, 2015, the General Office of the State Council again issued the "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Construction of Urban Underground Comprehensive Pipelines," which for the first time clearly proposed: "By 2020, a number of underground comprehensive pipelines with international advanced levels will be built and put into operation." Governments at all levels have issued corresponding supporting documents to actively promote the construction of urban underground pipelines; fiberglass pipes, with their lightweight, high strength, easy installation, and long service life characteristics, have become a choice of quality building materials in urban underground pipeline construction. The large demand for fiberglass pipes is conducive to increasing the added value of enterprise products, generating revenue for enterprises, and also promoting the upgrading of the entire fiberglass products industry, in line with industry needs and national industrial policy requirements.
