The production process of fiberglass storage tanks.

Fiberglass tanks, although their name contains the word "steel," do not have the pressure capabilities of steel or other metal composite materials. Fiberglass storage tanks are a new type of composite material primarily made from fiberglass as a reinforcement and resin as a binder, manufactured through winding controlled by microcomputer technology. Fiberglass storage tanks have properties such as corrosion resistance, high strength, lightweight, and long service life. Additionally, due to their flexible design capabilities and strong processability, they can be tailored for use in various industries such as chemical, environmental protection, food, and pharmaceuticals, gradually replacing carbon steel and stainless steel in many market areas. Below, we will introduce fiberglass storage tanks.

FRP storage tanks are a new type of composite material mainly made of fiberglass as a reinforcement and resin as an adhesive, manufactured through microcomputer-controlled winding machines. FRP storage tanks have corrosion resistance, high strength, light weight, and long service life. Due to their flexible design capabilities and strong processability, they can be flexibly designed for use in various industries such as: chemical, environmental protection, food, and pharmaceuticals, gradually replacing carbon steel and stainless steel in most market areas.
Next, let's introduce the production process of FRP storage tanks:
1. Production of anti-corrosion and anti-seepage inner lining layer
The "inner lining" refers to the inner lining of the FRP equipment, which can be structurally divided into two layers: the inner lining layer and the transition layer, mainly serving the purpose of anti-corrosion and anti-seepage. When selecting raw materials for the inner lining layer, in order to avoid the modulus difference between the fiberglass and resin causing concentration changes, the raw materials should be selected to have good toughness, high elongation, high curing, and high corrosion resistance. The reinforcing materials should be selected to have good wettability with the resin, low concentrated strain after curing, and maintain a high resin content of discontinuous short-cut fiber products.
2. Production of the reinforcement structure layer
When selecting materials for the winding layer, a resin curing system should be chosen. In this system, the ratio of catalyst to initiator should be suitable and can vary according to environmental temperature and tank diameter. Simply put, their proportion in the resin should be controlled to below 4%. The design of the resin curing system should be based on small sample tests. The winding reinforcement structure layer is formed using a micro-controlled winding machine to shape the structure layer of the FRP storage tank. The "structure layer" is the strength reinforcement layer of the FRP equipment, formed by winding in the inner ring, inner cross, and outer ring directions, mainly serving to enhance the mechanical strength of the FRP storage tank.
3. Production of the outer aging layer
To enhance the surface performance of the FRP storage tank in terms of strength and rigidity testing, a ring of circumferential fibers should be wound on the qualified inner lining surface. The thickness of the winding layer is designed based on internal pressure, determined by calculations of diameter, pressure, etc. The winding is formed using a computer-controlled winding machine. The outer aging layer is created after the reinforcement structure layer is made and fully cured, using an automated polishing machine to polish the outer surface of the FRP equipment to ensure it is overall smooth, and then a layer of gel coat resin with added UV absorbers is brushed on the outer surface. The "outer aging layer" ensures that the FRP equipment is not eroded by the external environment, with a resin content of ≥90%.
